Mr. Div's Latest Video Is An Audiovisual Journey Into The Abstract

Matthew DiVito teams up with musician Aldo Aréchar for their video “That Will Be The Day”.

You may remember Mr. Div (aka Matthew DiVito) from his collection of fantastical geometric GIFs, but the motion graphics designer is quite partial to making some animations too. His latest effort is providing the visuals for composer Aldo Aréchar’s track “That Will Be The Day.”

The video takes place within the geometric world that you’ll be familiar with if you know Mr. Div’s GIFs, but this is no emotionless void where abstraction distances the viewer. Instead, the shapes and forms have a warmth about them—like a radiant sun above a sparkling tessellated sea, or flying squares that shine like a shooting star.

As with his GIFs, the visuals have a retro hue about them, something of the early computer animation experiments of John Whitney. Add to that the transcendent tones of the music and you have an audiovisual collaboration that has real feeling.
