Remember a guy named Brendan Rodgers? Yes, well, he's gone now. It's been Jurgen Klopp's ship since October, and it looks like it's nearly righted itself, despite their fairly checkered W-L columns of late—Liverpool is at a respectable middle-upper table right now. But if you needed more convincing that the Scousers found a groove again, Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge have something to say to you in today's matchup against Southampton.

Above, Coutinho makes a stunning solo effort from nearly mid-field, as his stutter step leaves a defender in the dust. A pocket opened up a good many yards above the box, and he rocketed a shot that took a skip to perfect corner. It's spectacular, really.

And how about Daniel Sturridge?

Another lovely stop on a dime, and he treated a pair of defenders like saloon doors, rifling the ball between them, leaving them swinging. Even if the win-losses aren't the prettiest, at least their style of play is.

UPDATE:

Pretty though they may have been, Liverpool's goals were eclipsed by Southampton's late surge to put three on the scoreboard. The game has been completely turned on its head. The teams went into today's matchup tie at 44 points, but now Southampton have the edge of three more. Such is the hand of fate.

Three unanswered.
