Germany's Toni Kroos Zips a Long Shot Right Past England's Keeper

This "rivalry" is dead.

Ah, international friendlies. They exist for two reasons: practice and millennia-old grudges. In today's rivalry between England and Germany (which only started in the soccer world in 1930 and is basically a one-way street from the clownishly dramatic and chronically underachieving Brits [Germany, meanwhile, knows that actually-talented Netherlands are their real rival]), history is repeating itself, as Germany has gone up one goal after dominating most of the first half.

Germany's Toni Kroos came into possession of the ball after England's keeper Fraser Forster—substituted in for an injured Jack Butland—made some poor clearance, booting it straight to Germany. And Kroos, instead of taking the ball in for settled play, decided to have a crack at it, and beautifully tucked the ball into the perfect left corner. This all came after Mario Gómez was wrongfully called offsides on another goal. If I were England, I'd stop calling this a "rivalry." The World Champions own you, bruh.

UPDATES:

And now Mario Gómez has found redemption with this perfectly timed header. Delights.

Oh, and hideously bespectacled Harry Kane did something along these lines.

But no one cares.

Update at 75':

Ugh, fine. And now this is happening.

Yup, we're at 2-2. I'm as surprised as anyone. The only good thing to come of this is that it was a Leicester player that scored—albeit an unloveable one. Go Leicester.

Update at full time:

Damn. Damn it all to hell.

Eric Dier came in on a corner kick and headed a third goal for England, putting the final score at 3-2. Whatever, whatever, whatever.
