Brooks Koepka Tees Golf Ball Straight into His Opponent's Father's Backpack

Europeans vs. Americans! Fun! Games! Until people start aiming at their opponents' fathers.

The Ryder Cup is all fun and games, right? The Old World vs The New World. A bunch of awkward, politically-laced renditions of the national anthem. Some laughter about which side of the street you should drive on. Europeans vs. Americans! Fun, games! Until people start aiming at their opponents' fathers.

Well, today, the U.S.'s Brooks Koepka tee'd off from the fifth hole, and the ball veered close to a sand trap, bounced, and hit his Belgian opponent Thomas Pieters' father straight in the backpack. Sure, this seems like a nice, cozy, laughable coincidence, but mind you, there may be some underlying hostilities after WWII. The U.S. liberated Belgium from Germany in 1944, and maybe they want some payback. What have the Belgians ever done in return? Not to mention that the U.S. is generally disappointed with Belgium's contribution to international security.

With a U.S. presidential candidate threatening to sever serious ties with various foreign actors, these small actions may seem inane, but shit's getting real. And if you think that the ball bouncing gently into Pieters backpack wasn't much of an offense, think about how Koepka has to play it as it lies. Thwack.
