Clemson Freshman Walk-On Hunter Renfrow is Shredding Alabama's 5-Star Defense

Meet Clemson's new star: a freshman walk-on.

Clemson leads Alabama 14-7 in the National Championship, and while quarterback Deshaun Watson is going to (deservedly) get credit for his 108 passing yards, 23 rushing yards and two touchdowns in the first quarter, the bigger story is who he's throwing to.

Freshman walk-on wide receiver Hunter Renfrow, who was a lightly-recruited dual-threat quarterback just two seasons ago, has both touchdown catches for 47 yards.

On the first (above) Renfrow just beat his guy down the field. On the second, he ran a great route, confusing the Alabama coverage.

What makes this so incredible is that Renfrow is a freshman who wasn't even rated as a recruit.

His only offers came from Appalachian State, Gardner-Webb, Presbyterian and Wofford. And at just 5-foot-10, 175 pounds, he still doesn't have the look of a Division I wide receiver.

And now he's playing against — and shredding — a secondary that has three former five-star recruits and six former four-stars, in its two-deeps.

Renfrow is basically Southern Rudy, except for the fact that he's a really, really good football player. And he's showing that on the biggest stage in the country.
