Republicans Are 20 Percent More Likely to Vote Than Democrats in Midterm Elections

For the week leading up to the one-year anniversary of the 2016 elections, VICE Impact will be featuring facts that illustrate a broken electoral system in America, and how the nation can do better.

When it comes to showing up for elections Americans generally fail but liberals are even worse.

According to the New York Times, in both 2010 and 2014 Republicans were 20 percent more likely to cast a ballot in midterm elections than Democrats nationwide. However, despite a comparatively high economic approval rating, Donald Trump's favorability amongst Americans is particularly low.

This is a sign that more liberals could turn up to the polls for the highly anticipated 2018 midterms and other special elections happening throughout 2017.
