Aaron Snapes' 'Sausages' EP Is Playful House Made for Barbecues

And it comes with an acid-flavored remix from Walker & Royce

Leeds-based producer Aaron Snapes first popped into the underground after his first release in 2012 appeared on Claude VonStroke's Essential Mix and garnered further support from Annie Mac. Since then, he's split his allegiances between Dirtybird, Hannover's This Ain't Bristol, and Los Angeles label Perfect Driver, all while pushing a sound that has this weird effect of having you shaking your ass and crack up laughing at the same time.

His tune "Sausages" is a perfect example of this. It is, quite obviously, a song about sausages, and that bouncy bassline and descending whoop sounds like something cartoons on Nickelodeon would get down to, but it somehow works in a club, as evidenced in Snapes' excellent ON DECK mix last year.

Elsewhere on the meatily titled EP is "Like That," the analog-laden party-starter, and a freaked out, techno-leaning remix from NYC-based Walker and Royce that's worth more than a few listens. Check out the EP and some words with Aaron Snapes below.

Why is this song about sausages?
This song was written with the BBQ season in mind. The inspiration was parties and gatherings around BBQs, hanging out with your friends and having a good time. I sampled BBQ sounds, bottles opening, crowds at BBQs and of course sausages on the grill, whatever I could to try and get that vibe. Meeting with your friends is supposed to be fun, hence the slightly silly edge that has tried to be applied to the song whilst trying to make a strong club tune.

Do people take dance music too seriously sometimes?
I think there is a time and a place for all music. What I have always tried to do is make music that I have fun making and I hope that comes through in music. However there is plenty of dark and moody techno in my music library. When writing music, you really need to get into the zone and, for that type of music, I think you have to be more serious and more focused on atmosphere you are creating.

What did Walker & Royce do with the remix that you liked?
This is possibly my favorite remix of one of my tracks ever made. I was really intrigued to hear what they were going to come up with as they are one of my favorite groups. They perfectly blended the seriousness of their sounds and the playfulness of the original. It is a great piece of music and has the big bassline I love.
