Obama Announces Tighter Background Checks on Guns
President Obama will today announce action to sidestep Congress and curb gun violence, focusing on businesses that sell firearms at gun shows and online without a license. The new measures will force sellers to do background checks on potential buyers.—The Washington Post

Oregon Residents to Militia: 'Go Away'

Saudis: Peace is Possible
Saudi Arabia's UN ambassador said the dispute with Iran could be resolved if Iran stops "interfering in the affairs of other countries." Bahrain, Sudan, the UAE and now Kuwait have joined the Saudis in cutting diplomatic ties with Iran after attacks on the Saudi embassy in Tehran.—AP

Denmark Introduces Border Controls
Denmark has introduced temporary border controls with Germany, hours after Sweden imposed similar measures to deter migrants entering from Denmark. Germany's foreign minister warned that Europe's passport-free Schengen zone was "in danger."—Al Jazeera

The main suspect featured in the Islamic State's latest propaganda video is thought to be British resident Siddhartha Dhar. Born a Hindu, Mr Dhar ran a business renting out bouncy castles in London before converting to Islam. He left for Syria in 2014.—BBC News
