Next Hype: Waze & Odyssey

THUMP talks to the prolific—and anonymous—globe-trotting tech-house team.

Waze and Odyssey have racked up more than a dozen releases in the last few years, but no one has stepped forward to claim credit for this prodigious output. The house duo carefully maintains its anonymity, keeping details like the members' real names and home cities under wraps. They clearly have ties to New York, as many of their records have appeared on Tri-State area labels like Throne of Blood, Wolf Music, and Kerri Chandler's MadTech imprint. The latest EP Feelin' You will kick off a series of white labels on Jacques Renault's New York imprint Let's Play House when it drops on July 15. The title track, which you can stream below, relies on a few simple and effective elements: a short and catchy vocal, clean chord stabs, and the sound of a chattering crowd reveling in the feel-good vibes. Although Waze and Odyssey might prefer to let the tune speak for itself, we insisted that they answer a couple questions for us to reveal a tiny bit more about the mysterious producers behind the beats.
