For Some Reason, The Celtics Brought Tom Brady to their Pitch Meeting with Kevin Durant

Maybe he's there to say, "shit, that's a lot of money."

This Kevin Durant free agency business is getting way out of control. Last night, the Clippers made their pitch, with ESPN reporting that Durant was "blown away" by their presentation—one source says that there were tears. Durant met with the Warriors in the Hamptons, the Spurs in what must have been a room filled with Pop's old fax machines, OKC for what must have been a "please, baby, please" meeting, and is seeing the Heat tomorrow. But the Celtics decided to bring out the biggest New England guns they could muster: Tom Fucking Brady.

It's pretty hilarious, when you think about it, to bring a football player into a meeting about basketball. I mean, what the hell is Tom Brady going to say? "My experience on the football field, with a completely different organization, has been excellent—plus, the lohbstah rolls here are ahhhmazing. Play for the Celtics."? In all likelihood, it'll probably be some "heart of a champion" bullshit—"you too, with the right ingredients of teamwork and positivity…." That kind of stuff.

While Brady showing up to the Durant meeting feels preposterous, the craziest thing is yet to come. With this year's salary cap increase due to a huge TV rights deal for the NBA, and teams purchasing players for huge sums of money—I mean, the Dellavedovas of the world raking in $38.4 million deals (are you kidding me?)—Kevin Durant's paycheck is going to be absolutely ridiculous. So much, that it'll likely put Tom Brady's contract to shame. Congrats, Durant. No shame, no shame—milk it.

UPDATE:

Yeah, duh, Brady was there to talk about Boston. Still seems tremendously silly.

Brady active in the Durant meeting. Said someone privy to meeting: "Tom told him what it's like to play in Boston, how special it is."
