Michael Nau's "I Root" Is a Brief Glimpse into a Pastoral Heaven

The singer/songwriter's album 'Some Twist' is landing on June 16th.

Forests and mystical spirits are a goodass mix, seeing as how the two show up together in nearly every culture. Folk musicians write a lot about forests, but few have managed to capture a truly divine essence until now. Maryland-based singer/songwriter Michael Nau has made sumptuous, soulful folk-rock as the frontman of Cotton Jones and in his own solo work. His new album Some Twist is out in June and we have its third single, "I Root," premiering today on Noisey.

The song's luminous with lavishly recorded guitars, subtle touches of vibraphones and Nau's harmonized vocals. Despite its splendor, it's over and done with in just over two minutes, offering a tantalizing preview of a world many of us may never reach unless we maybe get lost in the woods. That or you can just play the song over and over again. Stream "I Root" below.
