Watch Albert Hammond Jr.'s Video for "St. Justice"

The Strokes guitarist has a new EP, a new video, and he's going on tour. Yay!

Nothing pleases us more than being surprised, particularly when it comes to an artist you think you've got pegged. For instance, we expect Albert Hammond Jr. to look sharp in a suit and to release videos that are err on the quirky side. We did not expect to see him without a shirt, or in a bathtub with a lady. This black and white short for "St. Justice" is unexpectedly intimate, sexy, and humorous to boot (see mark 1.05 for reference). The song itself is classic Albert: nimble, instantly memorable, and it contains the line, "There were dreams in my eyes that now don't shine through," which makes our heart hurt a little. It's crazy to think Albert hasn't released any solo stuff since 2008. Of course he's been busy with The Strokes in the interim, but we're super happy to have him back and imminently out on the road again. His new, five track EP, AHJ, is out this week on Julian Casablancas' label, Cult Records, and you can listen to the whole damn thing below. Please pay particular attention to "Cooker Ship"—that noodled bassline, that guitar cascade, that sweetly plaintive tone—so, so good.
