Tuesday marks the beginning of Senate confirmation hearings for seven of Donald Trump's top cabinet appointees, starting with the president-elect's pick for attorney general, Alabama senator Jeff Sessions. This morning, Sessions will testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee to assure his colleagues that he will be a check on Trump, should he overreach on legal matters, like his proposed ban on Muslim immigrants, according to the New York Times. Democrats, however, plan to press Sessions on his civil rights and voting rights record. Representative John Lewis, a Democrat from Georgia, plans to speak out against Sessions, as does Senator Cory Booker from New Jersey, who will break with a long-standing tradition, as no sitting senator has ever testified against a fellow sitting senator in a cabinet confirmation hearing. The hearing started at about 9:30 AM EST, and already a few protestors stormed the room and started shouting, "No Trump, no KKK, no fascist USA," in the middle of Sessions's opening statements.
