Now, we love every record we bring you here on THUMP, but sometimes, just sometimes, we love them more than you could ever really know. This is one of those records. A record so good that it was the highlight of DJ Harvey's Boiler Room set and DJ Harvey's Boiler Room set is about as good as it gets.
Originally released in 1984, Escape From New York's "Fire in My Heart" is post-disco classic, a perfect obscure slab of dancefloor heaven. Now set for reissue on Isle of Jura, a new label run out of Adelaide by Kevin Griffiths, we've got the world premiere of the thick and chewy dub. Get ready for the biggest bassline you've heard this decade. Oh, and then expect to hear it at every decent party you're going to this summer.
This one's a classic 32 years in the making...We chatted to the Isle of Jura team as well. Check both out below:
THUMP: Who exactly is Isle of Jura and what are you up to?
Kevin Griffiths: Isle Of Jura has been brewing for a few years, the idea initially being to re-issue some classics that have been unavailable on vinyl for some time, in the case of Escape From New York not since 1984. The musical remit will be eclectic with an anything goes attitude so expect disco, dub, ambient and beyond. I've released many house records over the years with my other label Tsuba, so Isle Of Jura will have a lot more freedom musically and is a blank canvas to create a new musical adventure.
When did you first come across this INSANELY INCREDIBLE RECORD?
The man, the legend, DJ Harvey who has an amazing ability for finding and playing these kinds of records. Harvey has the voodoo and creates an amazingly compelling musical narrative when he plays, connecting with the audience in a way that only truly great DJs can.
What's the best way to put out a fire in the heart?
For a natural remedy munching on some fresh ginger will do the trick!
Isle of Jura release Escape From New York's Fire in My Heart on June 6th
