Craig Sager No Longer in Remission; Doctors Give him 3-6 Months to Live

Craig Sager is no longer in remission and doctors have given him up to six months to live.

This video is incredibly tough to watch as Craig Sager tells HBO's Real Sports that his acute myeloidleukemia is no longer in remission. Not included in the clip is word that his doctors have estimated he has three to six months left to live, with the obvious caveat that everyone is different. Sager plans to fight though, and despite being clearly emotional and looking even more gaunt than when he was first diagnosed in 2014, he appears lively.

Sager told HBO's Bernard Goldman that he is entering uncharted territory now. Since being diagnosed in April 2014, Sager left TNT and underwent treatment that eventually put him into remission, allowing him to come back to work on March 5, 2015. Just a few weeks later, he learned that the cancer had returned, forcing him from the sidelines yet again. Another round of treatment saw him go into remission again, and he was back for the first game of the NBA season this year. According to the interview with Goldman, doctors informed him in February he had less than a year to live.

Sager says he's already had two stem cell transplants and "[v]ery rarely does somebody have a third," so he is conserving his strength, and plans to use it to exceed his doctor's prognosis by living another four and half years.
