Oregon Occupiers Vow to Stay
Two Oregon ranchers at the center of the takeover of a federal wildlife building are expected to report to prison later today to complete sentences for fires started on federal property. A group of armed anti-government protesters continue to occupy the wildlife refuge however, vowing to stay "for years." —The New York Times

Trump Launches First TV Ad
Donald Trump's first TV spot airs today and features a violent montage: Islamic State militants, the San Bernardino terror suspects and a US battleship launching a missile strike. It ends with his catchphrase: "We will make America great again." —The Washington Post

Zuckerberg Plans AI Assistant
The Facebook CEO has shared his goal for 2016 in an online post: building an artificial intelligence assistant. "You can think of it kind of like Jarvis in Iron Man," Zuckerberg said, rejecting fears of super-intelligence running amok as "far-fetched." —CNBC News

Obama Prepares Gun Curb Efforts
President Obama is to meet Attorney General Loretta Lynch today to discuss executive action to restrict guns. A "significant announcement" is expected Tuesday morning, and Obama will participate in a televised town hall event Thursday called "Guns in America." —USA Today

Saudis Sever Ties With Iran
Saudi Arabia has cut ties with Iran and given Iranian diplomats two days to leave the country, as tensions rise between the powers. The move follows the Saudi execution of leading Shia cleric Nimr al-Nimr, and a revenge attack on the Saudi embassy in Iran. —BBC News

Deadly Quake Hits India
A 6.7 magnitude earthquake has struck India's remote northeast region, killing at least six people and injuring more than 100 others. The deaths and injuries were caused by falling debris as buildings in the Manipur state shook for up to two minutes. —AP

New IS Video Targets UK
The Islamic State has released a new video purporting to show the killing of five hostages who the militant group said were spying for Britain. The video features a masked man with a British accent threatening attacks on the UK. —The Guardian

China's Share Trading Suspended
Trading on China's stock market has been suspended for the very first time after the market plunged 7 percent, triggering a circuit-breaker mechanism. Weak factory activity and falls in the yuan have created concerns about China's economy. —Reuters

The singer is being investigated by Las Vegas police, accused of hitting a woman after she tried to take a photograph. Brown responded by saying he was "going to be hella rich after all the lawsuits I file from these crazy individuals." —Billboard

Star Wars On Course to be Highest Grossing Film Ever
Star Wars: The Force Awakens has bested the grosses of both Jurassic World and Titanic, becoming the second-highest earner of all time after taking in $740 million in 19 days. Only Avatar ($760 million) remains ahead. —NBC News

Game of Thrones Enters Uncharted Territory
George R.R. Martin says he won't finish the penultimate book in the cycle before the sixth season of Game of Thrones. So when it launches in April, no-one will have any clue what's going to happen. —VICE

Malaysia Issues Vaping Fatwa
The country's National Fatwa Council has found e-cigarettes to be haram for Muslims. Malaysia joins Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar in imposing a ban on vaping. —Motherboard
