Joe Dunigan of the independent league New Jersey Jackals made an incredible diving catch last night and he celebrated the only way one celebrates these things: with a flawless backflip. The Jackals are playing the Rockland Boulders in a best-of-seven series in the Can-Am League Championship and last night was Game 1. This catch saved the game for the Jackals.

The catch is outstanding, and while the angle is a little strange, it makes the surprise of Dunigan flying out of nowhere even better. The timing is even more amazing. The Boulders loaded the bases in the ninth inning, down 3-2 to the Jackals. With two outs, Giuseppe Papaccio laced a shot to right center that should have at least tied the game, if not given the Boulders the lead. Dunigan went full extension to snag it and end the game and that's about as high stakes as it gets. Don't sleep on his teammates' reactions, either. The shortstop's fist pump is great, and, in the video here, his fellow outfielder joins in the backflipping party.
