In the early morning hours of of April 3, recent Baylor grad Shawn Oakman allegedly sexually assaulted a woman in his apartment. After the victim left, she went to the hospital and reported the assault and Waco police went to Oakman's apartment to investigate. According to a police affidavit, the warrant authorized a search for clothing the victim left behind at Oakman's as well as "earrings, blood, semen, bodily fluids, hair, skin cells, DNA, bedsheets and other items." Police seized two blankets and two sheets.

The affidavit, drafted by Waco police Detective Sam Key, said the woman met Oakman at a Baylor-area bar on Speight Avenue and Oakman asked her if she wanted to go to his residence. They walked to Oakman's duplex and Oakman "forced" her into a bedroom, according to the affidavit.
Oakman "forcibly removed" the woman's clothes, "forced" her onto the bed and sexually assaulted her, the affidavit alleges.

Oakman was previously kicked off the Penn State football team by then head coach Bill O'Brien for stealing from the school cafeteria. When he was confronted by the cashier, who had withheld his meal card because it had no money on it, he grabbed her wrist and took the card back. He then transferred to Baylor, graduated last December, and is a prospect in the NFL's upcoming draft. After police left his apartment on April 3, he tweeted this:

The devil will come and try to strip you of everything you worked for

Baylor has come under heavy fire recently for their response, or lack thereof, to sexual assaults involving students. Today, Outside the Lines published a comprehensive look of the school, including a new report that it took administrators two years to investigate claims made against two football players, Tre'Von Armstead and a practice squad player Myke Chatman, for rape following a party that began at Oakman's apartment.
