At SXSW this past year, Spotify opened the doors to its fifth iteration of the Spotify House, a venue for performances and a studio to interact with new tools for digital music. When it was all over, everyone went home, but the equipment was repurposed for some heartwarming philanthropy.

Glamour magazine reported that Spotify teamed up with local charities and organizations to donate all of the gear used at the Spotify House to build a recording studio for the students of Kealing Middle School in Austin. The creative youth group mindPOP, music architectural firm Acoustic Spaces, refurbishing initiative Rebuilding Together Austin, and the construction company DPR all contributed to the effort.

Kerry Steib, Spotify's Director of Social Impact, told Glamour: "At Spotify, we believe everyone should have access to music. In past years, we've worked with different nonprofits during South By Southwest to bring the community into the festival. This year, we wanted to create something long-lasting."

This new studio includes music recording programs and companion devices including touch pads, as well as mixers, mics, and a sweet-looking V-drum kit. Kealing's principal, Kenisha Coburn, told Glamour that the kids were really excited about the new space. "Most days, the kids are still recording and producing at least 2 hours after school ends," Coburn said.
