Kommune1, a producer from the northern UK, is putting a unique spin on techno with his latest EP Immolate, a circuitous offering that navigates obfuscated, rattling soundscapes. The youthful producer has been a longtime part of Montreal's Infinite Machine label, but Immolate will be his first album of original tunes with them.
The lead track from the EP, "Galax(o)" is a seven minute trip through haze and darkness, with only the skeleton of a vocal component to guide listeners through. The thrumming bass reverberations that abstractly mark the beginning of the song are refreshingly ambiguous in aural quality: though startling, they actually magnify the presence of the song's quavering vocals. The varying energy of "Galax(o)" provides necessary lulls from its maniacal pounding rhythm, like a fleeting ray of light piercing through fog.Read More on THUMP: Infinite Machine is the Most Prolific Label in Canada
