Islington MP Emily Thornberry has shared her displeasure over the recent closing of London nightclub fabric. Thornberry took to her Facebook page to reflect on fabric's ability to connect with young people across Europe as well as the police's attitude about the closure.

"I have been disgusted by the police's attitude in this," Thornberry wrote. "The suggestion that Fabric should change its name and music was wrong. Should there be an approved Met Police playlist, with Brian Adams or something?"

Thornberry also acknowledged that closing the club would not "stamp out drug use" and that the government and police should "be realistic" about the situation. "I think Fabric has had good practice and has been better at this than other nightclubs," she wrote. "Closing Fabric is not the answer."

Thornberry joins a growing list of DJs, producers, nightlife figures, and London officials who have spoken out against the decision to close the venue. Sadie Khan, the Mayor of London, has consistently spoken out and urged the Islington Council to find a solution to keep the club open. Four Tet also announced that Khan has invited the famed producer and DJ to speak at City Hall about fabric's closure. On Thursday, Night Time Industries Association deputy chair Alexander Proud claimed fabric would appeal the Islington Council's decision to revoke its license.
