Arsene Wenger Blames Fans for Not Winning Premier League Title

It's not going to win you any new friends, Arsène.

While teams who insist that their "12th man" earns them wins (coughSeahawkscough) can be downright insufferable—we get it, you guys are loud and annoying but no, there is not another football player on the field; that is illegal—a fan's contribution to the game is immeasurable, as well it should be. As a rule, though, that contribution is a net positive, not negative. Perennial fuckup Arsène Wenger has gone and broken that rule.

Ever since his (near-flawless) 2004 title, Wenger has delivered Arsenal to 11 straight years of third- and fourth-place finishes—soon to be 12, as the Premier League comes to a close and the team settles into their all but reserved fourth-place spot. To the uninitiated, this might not sound so bad. What's wrong with finishing so consistently in the top four? To anyone familiar with Arsenal's transfer budget this season (a whopping $110 million), their absurd talent, and Wenger's seemingly uncontested reign over the squad since 1996, however, this isn't great. Fans are pissed, and they have already called for Wenger's resignation.

So to what does Wenger owe his failure to bring a title back to Emirates Stadium this season? His answer: the fans.

"We lost the championship at home against the lower teams—we have the best record against the top clubs—but we played at home in a very difficult climate," the typically PR-savvy Wenger said, according to The Guardian.

"At home, against the smaller teams, we drop the points, because we are top of the league in the top teams. So we want to add what is needed," the manager also said. "But as well, this club has special values and one of its values I've experienced over the years is to stick together and to support the team. There's no success otherwise."

"But some groups of people try to manipulate our fans, and I believe apart from an agenda—a personal agenda, a big ego—there's not a lot behind it," Wenger added.

So, basically, you Arsenal fans out there are not only shitty fans; you're easily manipulated, too. (And according to Piers Morgan, that manipulator is…Piers Morgan.) Thanks for fucking up their season this year, Gunners fans. It's all on you. (Arsène out.)
