Reporter Goes on Twitter Spree About Steph Curry and Draymond Green Disrespecting Utah Jazz

Man, get a grip.

The Golden State Warriors beat the Utah Jazz in a fantastic game last night that saw Steph Curry do Steph Curry things to seal Golden State's 19th win of the season. After the game, Ben Dowsett, a reporter covering the Jazz, was in the locker room and felt Curry and Green did not show the proper respect to the Jazz or their fans. It must have really bothered him because he tweeted a whole lot about it.

Can I be honest about something? I expected just a little more respect thrown the Jazz's way from GSW's locker room than what actually came.

Before we get started for real, I have to be honest about something, too. I don't know what this means. Right now it sounds like this guy wants someone to throw a bone to the Jazz for almost beating an undefeated team.

Beyond Ian Clark, who might have more reason for frustration with Utah than anyone in there, lot of shrugs and chuckles on Jazz questions.

This sounds…like not such a big deal?

Example: Draymond and Steph next to a TV showing Root Sports, with a tweet up about how the Jazz are playing "like champions", or close.

Obv. a fan tweet, clearly. But both started laughing at it like it was the funniest thing they'd every seen. Dray yells "F**k that!"
— Ben Dowsett (@Ben_Dowsett) December 1, 2015

OK, that's kind of arrogant, but also that is a funny thing for a fan to say when you lose to the actual champions of the league.

Listen, these guys are entitled to every bit of ego they want at this point. It was just surprising to me.

Remember when you were a kid and you went to your friend's house instead of doing your homework and you got home and your mother said something like "I guess I'm just a little disappointed, I expected more from you"? This is like that. Also it sounds like sour grapes.

Again, this isn't close to sour grapes. Those guys have earned this. Just esp. in Steph's case, it's not what you expect is all.
— Ben Dowsett (@Ben_Dowsett) December 1, 2015

My man is in the throes of a torrid "I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'" run of tweets.

Again, Warriors have earned the right to behave however they want. Doesn't mean you always have to. Don't burn my house, GSW fans. You won.
— Ben Dowsett (@Ben_Dowsett) December 1, 2015

Last one, I'm way behind on the gamer: Still 1000% respect for the Warriors and what they've done. Just was surprised.
— Ben Dowsett (@Ben_Dowsett) December 1, 2015

"Do what you want, do what you want. It's your life you're ruining."

Dowsett tweeted a whole bunch more, clarifying a minor point he misinterpreted, but these are the nuts and bolts. A passive-aggressive set of tweets about the Warriors "disrespecting" a .500 team because two players laughed at a fan's tweet. How do you let something like that make such an impact on your life that you go on and on and on about it?

The Warriors play with such flair and, yes, cockiness that they have always rubbed some folks the wrong way. Their flamboyance has gone a long way in unseating the killjoys, but there will always be a certain sect of fans who want athletes to be polite robots and think that any kind of demonstrative joy is out of bounds. The problem is, the Warriors have been so fun about it—and so good—that many people simply don't care, or they let go of their hate and indulge in the fun.

Last season was a year-long marvel that ended in an MVP for Steph, and a championship for the team. They will almost surely get to the point where they become reviled villains—at least to a larger portion of NBA viewers—as their exposure grows from delightful novelty to 24/7 Steph Watch: Steph Likes LeBron's Instagram Post. But we're not there yet, and certainly not because they laughed off questions about a November win over the 8-8 Utah Jazz.
