Portugal Scores a Late Winner After a Euro Snoozefest

Enough of a moment to wake up from our naps.

"Boring" would be a kind way to describe the majority of today's Euros. Switzerland-Poland was decided by penalties (though the tie was owed to what was perhaps the goal of the tournament in Shaqiri's peach of a bicycle kick). Northern Ireland-Wales—two teams that produced fairly exciting play so far—was sluggish and decided by a Northern Ireland own goal. And Portugal-Croatia was 117 minutes of absolute shite.

But just two minutes shy of going to penalties, a Portugal counter attack saw a Ronaldo attempt, a Croatian keeper's stop, and Ricardo Quarsema coming in to clean up the slop with a header that seemed to pluck a hovering ball out of midair. It's a surprise nothing much came of any other counter-attacks, as both teams were erring on the side of defense all game—a ripe situation for speeding down the other end of the field. Granted, after 117 minutes, Portugal's counter attack was far from roaring, but it was enough to please the masses and put the majority Europe to bed just before midnight. Ahhhh.
