Arsenal Fan Conducts Hour-Long Arsene Wenger Debate With Coke Zero Box On His Head

No, this is not a parody article. No, this is not a joke.

If the quote often misattributed to Albert Einstein is to be believed, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. By that same logic, everyone at Arsenal may now be declared certifiably insane. With their loss to Liverpool on Sunday, the perfect predictability of Arsenal's season was condensed into the opening day. Lacklustre transfer activity was followed by disappointment on the pitch, which has left fans angry, frustrated and divided over the future of Arsene Wenger. The players have bottled a vital game, the team is under pressure, and the club are now frantically trying to panic buy players before the transfer window closes.

There has been booing, there have been handmade protest signs and Arsenal Twitter has gone off its fucking nut. Oh, and, naturally, the creative collective known as Arsenal Fan TV have returned, and are making lots of angsty videos in which they bang on about how much they hate the manager, hate each other and, all in all, hate the state of this godforsaken earth.

That's the archetypal Arsenal season, then, boiled down into a single afternoon. The club has made the same mistakes it always makes, and the fans have reacted in timeworn fashion. Arsenal are stuck in a loop of endless repetition at this point, with supporters daring to dream and seeing their dreams dashed over, and over, and over again. It's a maddening process, enough to drive even the most stable person to derangement and despair.

If the slow creep of collective insanity at The Emirates needs to be evidenced, then look no further than this video. Uploaded to YouTube by 'DT', an Arsenal Fan TV regular and minor internet celebrity, it consists of an hour-long debate over Arsene Wenger and his recent record as manager of the club. DT is arguing with 'The Guv', a man who speaks passionately in defence of Wenger's management. The Guv is a man with strong personal convictions, an eloquent debating style and, oh, what appears to be a family-sized Coke Zero box wedged onto his head.

Now, this is not a parody. This is not a joke, as far as we can tell. This is an actual Arsenal fan, appearing on a YouTube debate with a cardboard box on his head. He also appears to be wearing a thick winter jacket and some kind of cravat, all of which give him the air of a man at an extremely avant-garde fashion show. This is the conceptual end point of Arsenal Fan TV, in all its appalling glory. This is a man attempting to share his very strong football opinions™ with the world, all while wearing a fucking box on his head like an extremely budget David Blaine.

If this isn't definitive proof that Arsenal fans have lost all touch with reality, then we don't know what is. The only other explanation is that it's a clever, satirical comment on a fanbase that has elevated a group of very angry men to the status of trivial YouTube commentators. Is The Guv any less sensible than anyone else who interacts with Arsenal Fan TV, or the people who willingly appear on it? No, probably not.
