And Now, Two Baseball Players Milking Cows

The Boston Red Sox and Texas Rangers held a milk-off before the game last night and the Rangers won in a hotly contested battle.

Texas Rangers pitcher Ross Ohlendorf and Boston Red Sox pitcher Wade Miley milked cows for some reason before their game last night in Arlington. Ohlendorf was selected for the honor by his teammates because he owns a longhorn ranch, which is not where milk comes from but, hey, it's the same species anyway. At least I think it is; I am not, strictly speaking, a person who knows things about agriculture. So let's check in with an expert.

"There is definitely a difference," Ohlendorf said. "But I'm excited to get down in there. I think I milked a cow once when I was younger. I watched a YouTube video last night to prepare."

That's why this righty has had a nice Major League career. Dude watches and breaks down film like a champ. And it paid off because Ohlendorf won the competition despite Miley having grown up on an actual dairy farm. The difference in technique is interesting and although Miley's double-barrel milking in sync looks more effective, Ohlendorf got the edge with the more traditional (from movies I've seen, anyway) alternating up-and-down maneuver.

Better still for the Rangers—who also beat the Red Sox in actual baseball last night—is that one day after Josh Hamilton made his return to the team, he hit two laser beam home runs into nearly identical spots in the right field seats.
