Listen to BV's Drippy New Single "HUH"

Black Vanilla are back—bout time—and these days they're performing under the streamlined name BV. New single "HUH" is the trio, Marcus, Lavurn and Jarred's, first release since last year's "Slug," a club banger with the usual R&B undertones we've come to expect from them.

"HUH" indicates a timely move into darker spaces, like maybe they've been listening to a lot of Rich Gang. Still very much fit for dance floors, "HUH"'s dribbling, leaking beat, and cheeky, puffy-chested lyrics make for the kind of song you and your ride or dies get fucked up to before heading out. Or maybe driving down the main drag in Las Vegas with the top down at midnight.

It feels like BV have worked their way up to this sound; a sound that suits them in a way that is both unexpected and totally unsurprising. "HUH" is intoxicating stuff—an exciting preamble to whatever they have planned next, and to their headline slot at this year's Volumes Fest.

Listen to our premiere of the track below, purchase it here, and read our mini interview with the boys.

Firstly, what's behind the name change?

Harder to Google. Bacterial vaginosis.

Tell us a little bit about "HUH." Have you been listening to a lot of Young Thug or is this the real BV, has everything been leading up to this?

It's all the real.

As a group you're kind of renown for bringing eclectic sounds together. What are you guys listening to individually at the moment?

Lavurn: I'm listening to the sound of white men yelling. It's everywhere in Australia.

Marcus: I've been listening to this group of young Danish guys, LISS, though it's hard to tell whether it's just a soundtrack to me doting on the lead singer or whatever.

Do your music tastes tend to differ much?

Yes we all have different tastes in music and in food and most other areas of our life. Almost everything about us as individuals is different from each other.

Let's get political. This Saturday Australia's voting in the Federal Election. Have you got any predictions? Or optimisms?

Marcus: I'm going to vote below the line for Ken Canning (Socialist Alliance) in the Senate, about time there was an activist indigenous voice in federal parliament dismantling the system from the inside.

What's in the pipeline for BV in the coming months?

We'll have a mixtape of all your favourite tunes from our live shows over the past year. It's been both highly enjoyable and also really frustrating to put it together.
