As the Government increasingly comes under public pressure over the overheated housing market, the opposition party released its three-pronged effort to make homes more affordable. It proposes forming an Affordable Housing Authority with powers to compulsorily buy land to reach a goal of 100,000 new homes in 10 years. They also promise to introduce new capital gains tax measures to crack down on speculators, and a ban on foreign buyers purchasing existing homes unless they have NZ citizenship or permanent residence.
