You know what sucks? Monday. You know what sucks more than your average Monday? It's Monday, and the internet isn't working (thanks, Turnbull). And even worse than that? Rubbish internet that stops you from putting out your Monday Morning Mix which is meant to
soothe crappy Monday feelings. But you live and learn. You move on. You vote Greens.
This week's Monday Morning Mix—Monday Midday Mix really—comes to you care of Marcus Whale, the Sydney-based producer known for his work in Collarbones and Black Vanilla. He's also just collaborated on LUCIANBLOMKAMP's second LP Bad Faith and Swick's Stamina.
Whale's long-awaited debut solo record, Inland Sea, is out on Good Manners June 10 and is set to be an eerie, beautiful and political collection of down-tempo and industrial work.
Listen to the third in the series of Monday Morning Mixes below.
1. What's your favourite Monday morning record and why?
Laura Mvula - Sing To The Moon This album, in a really innate way, lifts me up emotionally. I think it's because it's not a joy that's carefree, it's one of liberation, of utopian hopefulness. Her voice just enriches everything.
2. What's the best way to pass the time on a morning commute?
I like to get into a book if i'm not distracted by my Facebook feed. I mostly commute on my bike though, so I'm primarily passing the time by panting and being stressed about potentially dying.
3. Tell us about the worst job you ever had.
Most of the work I've ever done is as a music teacher, which is largely quite nice. I once had a music retail job, selling wind instruments, that I was just not really good at, which made me feel terrible about myself.
