This Is One of the Best Shootout Goals You'll See

Victor Crus Rydberg FTW.

Shootouts aren't very popular amongst NHL fans. Deciding a game with a one-on-one skills competition doesn't seem like the fairest way to award two points after three grueling 20-minute periods and an overtime. But that's where we are. And that's what the league's new 3-on-3 overtime format is helping reduce.

So far, we are seeing less shootouts, which is a good thing. But as much hate as the shootout rightfully gets, there's one undeniable plus it brings to the game: creative, highlight-reel goals that would otherwise be near-impossible to execute on the crowded ice.

While one of the best goals you'll see this year didn't happen in the NHL, the point still stands. Victor Crus Rydberg of the Swedish Tier II league's HC Vita Hasten stole the show Tuesday night, turning sideways and going between his legs to net an unreal shootout goal.

The filthy goal was a game-winner to boot. The 20-year-old was a fifth-round pick of the Islanders in the 2013 draft.
