Ireland's postal system is cornering the demographic of gamers who still communicate with snail mail—and the result is awesome.

Today, the Irish postal service, known as An Post, released a set of gaming-themed stamps that feature the classic era's big four: Mario, Sonic, Pac-Man, and Space Invaders. Says An Post, "The set marks the iconic status of the games and the transition of gaming from novelty to global industry." Our favorite retro protagonists have come a long way to get there, and they look just as great on tiny squares as they do on a console. One question remains: what took them so long?

Perhaps this will inspire the computer generation to send more snail mail. I know I'd feel a lot safer knowing that the fireball-flinging Italian plumber was sheparding my birthday cards. The ball's in your court, USPS!
