In the era of the craft cocktail renaissance, there are a lot of deliciously potent but petite cocktails to be had at any given bar. The only problem? After a couple of Last Words or Ancient Mariners, you're already on the express train to Sloppy Drunk Town. And maybe that's fine on a weekend night, but warm weather calls for day drinking. And for that, we need long drinks.Enter the Pimm's Cup, the easy sipper that's kept posh people functionally inebriated for nearly two centuries.

Its titular gin-based liqueur (Pimm's No. 1 Cup, that is) dates back to 1823 in England. Nowadays, it's one of the official drinks at Wimbledon, the Chelsea Flower Show, the Henley Royal Regatta, and the Glyndebourne Festival Opera. Well, ooh la la.
Now, the most classic of Pimm's Cups simply calls for Pimm's and a splash of lemonade or ginger ale. Our version adds another jolt of dry gin (specifically Tanqueray No. 10, which is lighter on the juniper than London dry gins), just to get the party started, along with a fruit salad's worth of berries, cucumber, citrus slices, and mint. There's no special technique required to build this one: Just add all of the ingredients to a glass and get to sipping.Better yet: Make a pitcher and invite your friends for a long, slow day of getting casually faded in the sun.RECIPE: Pimm's Cup
