INTERVIEW BY JULIEN MOREL, TRANSLATED BY PAULINE EIFERMAN
Remember the things you drew when you were ten years old? The weird animals, the people with big noses, the goofy monsters, and copious dicks and turds? Those were really good. You shouldn’t have stopped drawing that stuff.
The three Bordeaux, France-based guys from the Edrem art collective never stopped drawing that stuff, and look how good they’ve gotten at it. They’re a gazillion times better than you were when you were a kid. So that’s it. They win.
Vice: Did you choose the name Edrem because it’s merde spelled backward?
Steven Burke: Yep. Which one of you drew the one called Prout [fart]?
Did you hate school?
Why do I feel like you guys are a bunch of scary weirdos?
Why do you only use black and white?
Do you ever draw for girls, like to seduce them?
What exactly inspires you?
Does it piss you off when we say that your drawings are really cute?
And what would be your reply to someone who would venture to say that your drawings are “totally awesome” and/or “radical”?
