Germany has become embroiled in another racism row thanks to a misguided army officer and an impressionable, if a little enthusiastic, soldier. Footage of a recruit being taught to fire a machine gun by being told “You are in the Bronx now. A black van stops in front of you. Three Afro-Americans get out and offend your mother in strong language… Act!” has appeared on the internet over the weekend. The soldier’s cries of “Motherfucker!” followed by rapid bursts of fire are disturbing to say the least.
