Romero’s passion for donkeys stems from his childhood. After growing up around them in the countryside he set up Burrolandia, a donkey refuge open to the public 15 years ago. Burrolandia – which literally translates to ‘Donkeyland’ – provides a home for rescued, abandoned and retired donkeys; all of them cute, cuddly and crazy about carrots. Of all all the diferent breeds, our favourite is the zamorano-leonés, which looks a bit like Shetland ponies and has great bangs. We also meet Isidro, the refuge’s newest member, a month old donkey foal.
