NEW YORK – LA SUPERETTE

The traditional “alternative” craft fair dynamic involves brooding indie waifs and fag hags hawking goods to breeders and Democrats. But all’s out the window with La Superette, an annual weekend-long melee with cheap, strange shit you may not need but kind of can’t resist (such as whatever the hell that is in the picture above, or how about a Morse code necklace that spells out “Fuck You” in beads?) and noise band performances sprinkled throughout. They kick off their 11-year anniversary (this time at a mysterious space on the corner of Front and John near the South Street Seaport; cryptic instructions say to look for some door beneath a flagpole) on Friday night with a no-shopping party, just a live show with Lucky Dragons, Fat Worm of Error, Madame Chao, and Aa (Big A little a).
