iFixit Has Already Ripped Open an iPhone 5

The lovely iFixit has gotten its deconstructive hands on an iPhone 5 and already has the phone’s guts up on display. There aren’t a whole lot of surprises — the battery is a bit bigger, and still surprisingly low-voltage; it’s got a wild antenna array on its finely-tuned logic board — but iFixit gave it bonus points for being very modular and easy to take apart. Despite having a few difficult to deal with parts and those same old pentalobe screws as older iPhones, iFixit gave the 5 a 7/10 repairability rating, one better than the 6/10 rating for the 4S.

That means that, unlike the Macbook Pro Retina, the iPhone 5 should be relatively easy to repair, and the screen should be easier to replace than ever after it inevitably shatters.
