SIOUXSIE LIVE AT THE EIFFEL TOWER

Siouxsie Sioux played the Eiffel Tower last weekend because she’s got a new album out – Mantaray, her first ever solo record – and it seemed like a good excuse to play a gig halfway up one of the world’s most famous landmarks. We went along to find out whether she can still don the goth face paint, rock a leather catsuit and high-kick her way around a stage without looking stupid – despite knocking on for 50 (We love her, btw.)

We asked some people in the crowd what they thought of the punk matriarch’s performance…

Harry, a fan since he was 9.
How are you here?
I won the NME competition..I did enter 7/8/9/10 times or more..
Did you ever think you’d see Siouxsie play the Eiffel Tower?
No it’s incredible. Amazing venue.
Can you still be punk rock when you’re living on a farm in Toulouse?
Looks like it, doesn’t it?

Adrian, 18, from local support band The Dodoz
Have you seen Siouxsie in the boulangerie in Toulouse?
No.
What is your motivation to pick up a guitar?
I don’t know. There is no rules when you are playing music. You can do what you like when you are composing a song. You can do anything you want and not anyone will come and say to you ‘no don’t do that’ kind of liberty.
Who’s a bigger Icon: Siouxsie Sioux or the Eiffel Tower?
Both. We are really fans of Siouxsie from the age of 11 but the Eiffel Tower is a really great venue to play.

Nice jeans! Why are your legs linked together by chains? Is it some sort of homage to Guantanamo?
[shrugs]
Do you speak English?
[shakes head]
