Phyllis Omido
Phyllis Omido is a Kenyan environmentalist and a Goldman Environmental Prize Laureate (2015). When a lead smelting plant created grave environmental and health consequences for a local community in Owino Uhuru, a slum near the coastal city of Mombasa, Omido organized mass protests to shut it down. While Omido faced arrests, the plant was ultimately closed.
