Blood Orange: “Neptune”

Sometimes I’m of the belief that Dev Hynes is the musical equivalent of Midas; with everything he touches turning to aural treasure. He’s also become something of a musical polygamist, seemingly able to delve between genres at ease. Basically, what I’m trying to say is he’s fucking good at music.

Now he’s lent his musical deity touch, to a cover of Lemonade’s “Neptune” and it sounds great. It’s all steamy synths and droning bass, backed up by a luscious vocal from Hynes. The track culminates in a slow, R&B dazed rap from Starchild, wrapped up in the sort of sincerity that deserves to soundtrack make-out sessions circa 90s LL Cool J.
