We asked seven kids how they would style themselves and each other—girls got to do boys, and boys got to do girls—and our favourite stylist Lisa helped them put it together. We figured it would give us fashion input and ideas so nutty and unheard of they would make Bernhard Wilhelm and Raf Simons go green with envy. But guess what, kids are super conservative.

Jade, 9 Boys should dress baggy, at least for the jeans. So that the underwear is showing. And then a T-shirt and a shirt with long sleeves. A lot of boys in my class use a lot of gel in their hair, I don’t like that. I think you should dress according to your personality. If you’re a punk for example. Like, you shouldn’t be mean, but you can be tough and kind at the same time. There are punks in my school, but the popular kids are the boys who play football and basketball. And then those boys pick the girls, and then those girls become popular too.

Elliot, 11 Girls shouldn’t wear too much make-up, definitively not. They should dress OK, you know? Not too tight, but not too baggy either. Jewellery and iPods and stuff like that are optional. Because iPods cost money, and jewellery costs money, so girls can decide that for themselves I think. But they should absolutely not wear pants where the waist reaches over the belly button, like MUM does!

Sara, 11 I don’t know, they can wear like… jeans and a T-shirt. WE is a good brand. You know, big clothes. Skate shoes are nice. I like skaters. There’s this one metal kid in my school, no wait, there are two—and they dress exactly the same every day. They’ll wear Iron Maiden T-shirts and scruffy jeans. They’re completely on their own. I also used to be in the boys’ ice hockey team for four years, as a goalie, but then they got too big. Once a boy skated across my fingers. They turned blue.
