Explore A ‘Tiny Tokyo’ In This Tilt-Shifted Timelapse

Back in August, we fulfilled our dreams of travel abroad with a tilt-shifting short from Tokyo timelapser darwinfish105. Where the former film took us on a tour of the city from the fixed perspective of the Tokyo World Trade Center’s observatory, the filmmaker’s new video takes his talents on the road. Tiny Tokyo is a series of street level timelapses vignetting Japan’s capital in the filmmaker’s signature toy town-like style, as well as an homage to tilt-shift innovator Ben Thomas’ short film of the same name. Darwinfish105 makes the city’s trains look like miniatures; a traditional parade—replete with authentic Japanese attire and a sedan ride—looks like a stream of stylish ants; construction equipment looks like it was tooled by Tonka. 

For an exercise in shifting perspectives, check out a few of our favorite stills from Tiny Tokyo below. Just make sure you trod lightly—Godzilla notwithstanding, nobody wants to squash the citizenry.
