FRIDAY TYRANT – THE LAST PAGE OF OVER THE EDGE

The internet (or life) is such a downer today. Instead of being miserable and mean, I thought it would be nice to dig up something pleasant.

You might remember the big to-do on this site when Vice went to Lincoln Center and re-premiered the fuck out of one of the best movies ever, Over the Edge. It was a great event. As is well-documented, I am a bit of a -phile for this movie. There used to be a website/fanpage on some weirdly low-level AOL shit a few years back and whoever ran it was frighteningly into this movie as well. He had all kinds of enlightening tidbits, soundbytes, and facts about the filming and actors. I guess it was too much of a hassle to keep it up because I can’t find it anywhere. I remember returning there once and I think there was an apology posted for having to take it down. (Did it used to be that expensive managing a webpage? I don’t remember.)

Good thing I snatched some things before it was gone. Attached below is what is supposedly the script for an alternate ending. The proper ending to the movie, in which Cory, Claude, and Johnny are waving from the bridge to the bus filled with all of the other kids headed up to “The Hill” for their stints in juvie, is a fine ending. I wouldn’t fuck with it at all. But it’s nice to know this extra little riff exists. Maybe the problem was getting rights from The Who. Or maybe they just knew that they had a better ending already and stuck with that. Yeah, let’s go with that.
