Back in February, THUMP partnered with music technology company Native Instruments for the first event of the year in our series of Native Sessions talks and workshops. Dedicated to exploring the significance and lineage of sonic hooks in modern songwriting, the event focused on tips and techniques for using NI’s production tools MASCHINE and KOMPLETE and featured a distinguished panel of guest speakers.
Crafting your signature sound is a process that often takes thousands of hours of work, and the guests were certainly well-equipped with knowledge to help you along that journey. They included THUMP’s Editor-At-Large Joshua Glazer, Kendrick Lamar collaborator Nosaj Thing, Brooklyn beatsmith Dot da Genius, Nick Shelestak of Phantogram and Big Grams, and Filip Nikolic of summery LA disco duo Poolside.

March 1 saw Native Sessions head to NYC and gather together the likes of Fool’s Gold affiliate Brenmar, New Zealand-born recording artist Kimbra,Grammy Award-winning producer and engineer Bob Power, and BK-via-NJ hip-hop producer Mr. Green; stay tuned for the forthcoming footage from that event, too.
