Oakland Fire Victim Nackt to Get Posthumous Release on The Nite Owl Diner

Oakland DJ, producer, and Rare Form party-runner Nackt (real name: Johnny Igaz), who died in the Ghost Ship fire that killed 36 people earlier this month, will be getting a posthumous record release courtesy of Chicago label The Nite Owl Diner. The EP, titled Night System, is due out on January 13, 2017 and will be his first vinyl release.

Night System, according to Resident Advisor, was already in the works before the fire occurred. The EP, described by the label as straddling “the line between house and techno (with a healthy dose of acid for good measure),” has collaborations with fellow Bay Area artists Jason Kendig and CM-4.

In a statement to the publication, The Nite Owl Diner co-head Chrissy wrote: “I was heartbroken to hear of Johnny’s passing in the Ghost Ship fire, as are so many other people in the scene whose lives he touched. Needless to say, this has put our next release in a new light. It’s not just another Nite Owl Diner 12-inch anymore, but a memorial to our friend.
