The Vine Android App Won’t Share My Good Vines, So I Used a Webcam to Put Them on YouTube (Update!)

Android users, long lost in a deserted wasteland of social video irrelevance, now have Vine. As of today, the rather cool video app is in the Google Play store, just four short months after Twitter launched the app on iOS. I admit, I’ve actually been really excited about the coming of Vine, as I think the medium is fantastic. There’s only one kinda big problem: I can’t get it to actually share videos, at least not yet.

The launch this morning was reportedly buggy, at least in terms of finding it in the Play store. I didn’t have time to play around with it this morning, and didn’t have any trouble downloading the app this afternoon. But after making a seriously good Vine involving Kevin Costner in Waterworld, I couldn’t get it to share to Twitter. My account was linked, but upon publish, nothing happened. I tried again, this time with a Smashmouth video, and nada.

There also doesn’t appear to be sharing buttons on posts in your in-app Vine feed either. I’m not the only one having problems, as a few have mentioned problems on Twitter. To be fair, a few voices don’t exactly signify a massive problem, but I did ask Vine’s Android dev to see if there’s a problem; I’ll update if I hear back. Still, I can’t figure out how to get my Vines off my phone, as there’s no way to send a web permalink from the app, at least as far as I can tell. So this is what it’s come to: a YouTube video of Vines.

Update: One of the Vines I made for y’all just showed up in my Twitter feed, so maybe these things are just backlogged as all get-out. Vine on!
