Tinder prides itself on helping its users meet new people “for all kinds of reasons.” Sure.
Today the mobile dating app announced a new integration with streaming music service Spotify called Anthem, which allows users to see one another’s music listening habits. The feature allows you to see what artists “you have in common” with other swipers, and you have the ability to tailor which artists other people see.

Tinder has a more grandiloquent idea of what “your Anthem” is supposed to be. From the company’s blog post published earlier today: “[It’s] where the lyrics of your life meet the rhythm of your soul. It may change as you change, but at any given time, you have an anthem—and the world is waiting to hear it.”
Regardless of whether or not a lot of people choose to activate their Anthems, the feature is the latest in a series of product tweaks meant to elevate Tinder beyond the status of a mere hook-up app. Earlier this year, Tinder introduced a group dating feature called “Tinder Social,” which drew some backlash because it revealed a little too much about your Facebook friends’ swiping choices.
Last fall, Tinder’s parent company the Match Group went public, in part on the strength of Tinder’s status as the most popular dating app on the planet. It’s had a good 2016. The company’s share price has risen nearly 70 percent since early February.
Hopefully this terrifying Tinder/Spotify marketing video won’t change investors’ minds:
