We Asked Some Goths What They Think of Taylor Swift Going Goth

Taylor Swift is back, and she's gone full goth. She teased her new album, Reputation, with some Instagram pictures of snakes (goth), used a sort of olde English font on the album cover (extremely goth) and tweeted a teaser trailer for her new music video, in which she looks like she's joined an Xmal Deutschland tribute band (throwback goth, but goth nonetheless).

In Taylor's lead single, "Look What You Made Me Do", she declares that "the old Taylor is dead". So we went to Camden – spiritual and actual home of London's goths – to ask the goth-iest people we could find what they think of the new Taylor.

VICE: What do you think of Taylor Swift being a goth now?
Karina: I think she mostly does this for attention, to get a wider audience.

What do you think, Aska?
Aska: Attention.
Karina: She just wants attention – it's her answer to everything

What do you think of Taylor Swift being a goth now?
Sarah: It's a little bit weird, but I guess she's young. She's probably still exploring who she is, you know. Good for her. Definitely don't think it's that bad

What do you think of Taylor Swift being a goth now?
Ivette: Is it weird that I don't follow news – pop news? I don't actually know who Taylor Swift is. I'm probably the wrong person to ask, to be honest. Is she the really poppy one?

What do you think of Taylor Swift being a goth now?
Apple: I just think she's an idiot, I hate her.

She's just released a new album that touches on all the Kanye stuff.
Reputation? Yeah, I saw it online. I literally despise her and want her to disappear off the face of the earth.

So there we have it: the gothy women of Camden are either largely nonplussed about the new Taylor, or just absolutely fucking despise her regardless of what she's wearing.
