Nashville Predators forward Craig Smith produced one of the truly bizarre plays of the NHL season in Monday’s game against the Montreal Canadiens.
Tied 1-1, Smith had a chance to deliver the game-winning goal for Nashville with under a minute to play in overtime. Stationed in front of the net, Smith received a pass with a wide-open net to shoot on, but then a funny thing happened—he somehow managed to block his own shot on the one-timer attempt.

I’m not sure he could replicate that moment again if he tried.
Here’s another angle of it:
This wasn’t the first time Smith has ran into trouble with a wide-open net—he infamously shot way high on an empty net against the Leafs back in 2011.

Luckily for Smith, he made up for Monday’s gaffe by burying a shootout winner to lead the Preds to a 2-1 victory.
