Yes, everyone is still losing their shit over GKMC, which apparently sold over 242,000 first-week, (DA-FUQ? Hip-hop fans actually buy albums these days?!) So, Kendrick has released this as a thank you to all the younglings going out and spending their hard earned money on him.
Produced by J Cole and El Cannei, it stands alone as a great instrumental. But then Kendrick graces it and somehow manages to sound so chill, even though he’s rapping about skeletons and violence AND throwing major shade at his new beef buddy and purveyor of sour grapes, Shyne. Obviously, it always makes me wanna vomit chunks when musos start referring to Kendrick’s position as the new darling of ~real rap~ but so long as he continues to be the shit and not just shit, I’m on board. (But Schoolboy Q is still the best member of Black Hippy, IDST)
